WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Losing a loved one is never easy, especially if you’re just a kid.

Lower Cape Fear Hospice offers a summer camp to help elementary and middle school aged children find healthy ways to deal with grief . It’s called Sunshine Camp. The camp allows kids to meet friends facing similar circumstances, learn, laugh, and believe in the value of their own life and experiences.

There are different weeks dedicated to each age group, where kids can come together, share their stories, remember those who’ve passed and have fun. Activities vary with each group but some favorites include playing with a parachute and creating collages.

Camps run Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Phillips LifeCare & Counseling Center, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28411.

2017 Schedule:

Rising 2nd and 3rd graders – June 26-30

Rising 4th and 5th graders – July 10-14

Rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders – July 24-28

Sunshine Camp is free of charge; however, campers must pre-register and attend a brief meeting prior to their camp session.

To register, call (910) 796-7991 and ask for Melinda McKeon. More information is available here.

Lower Cape Fear Hospice is a non-profit organization.
